The Nebraska Lottery began in 1993 and was the 37th state to
have lottery in the United States. The lottery offers a variety of Nebraska
Lottery games for lottery players in the state, including scratch-off games,
draw games, and multi-state games.
The NE Lottery sells $1, $2, $3, $5, $10, and $20 Scratch
tickets, with prizes ranging from a free $1 ticket up to $200,000 cash. The
Nebraska Lottery sells lottery games including Lucky for Life, Powerball, Mega
Millions, 2by2, MyDaY, Nebraska Pick 3, and Nebraska Pick 5. MyDaY, Nebraska
Pick 5, and Nebraska Pick 3 are Nebraska games only. Powerball and 2by2 are
operated on behalf of member lotteries by the Multi-State Lottery Association,
and Lucky for Life and Mega Millions are operated by their member lotteries.
Lottery drawings for 2by2, Lucky for Life, and
Nebraska-exclusive lotto games are held every night. Powerball drawings are
held three nights a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and Mega Millions
lottery results come out two times per week on Tuesday and Friday. For an extra
dollar, you can play the Megaplier for Mega Millions and the Power Play for
Powerball to increase your lottery winnings.
In FY 2022, lottery
ticket sales were $202.3 million. Proceeds transferred to the beneficiary funds
were $49.4 million – the largest amount ever transferred during a fiscal year
since the Lottery began in 1993. The proceed of the state of Nebraska is used
to support state programs, including education, natural resources, and the
operation of the state fair. The Nebraska Lottery transferred a total of $49.4
million in lottery proceeds to its beneficiary funds between July 1, 2021, and
June 30, 2022. This is the largest amount transferred during a fiscal year
since the Lottery began in 1993.
“Whether it’s a Scratch game or Mega Millions or Powerball,
when you buy a lottery ticket, you’re generating funds for good causes in our
state,” said Nebraska Lottery Director Brian Rockey. If you have a winning
ticket by matching the winning numbers than that would benefit you and your
family.
Amendment 4, passed by Nebraska voters in November 2004,
established the following distribution formula:
• Education (44.5%)*, as directed by the Legislature, is
currently distributed to the Nebraska Education Improvement Fund.
• Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund (44.5%).
• Nebraska State Fair (10%).
• Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund (1%), plus the first
$500,000 in fund proceeds each fiscal year.
To
play the Nebraska Lottery, you must be at least 19 years old and be a resident
of the state. You can purchase tickets from authorized retailers, which can be
found using the "Where to Play" tool on the Nebraska Lottery website.
If you are a lottery winner, you can claim it at any
authorized retailer or at the Nebraska Lottery office in Lincoln. Prizes of
$599 or less can be claimed at any authorized retailer, while prizes of $600 or
more must be claimed at the Nebraska Lottery office but you must pay state
taxes and federal taxes.
The odds of winning a prize from the Nebraska Lottery depend
on the specific game you are playing. The odds of winning a prize are listed on
each ticket and can also be found on the Nebraska Lottery website nelottery.com.
Lottery tickets in Nebraska cannot be purchased online, only
in person at lottery retailers.
