The New York Lottery launched in 1967 under the slogan "Your
Chance of a Lifetime to Help Education." Based out of Schenectady, The NY
Lottery continues to be North America's largest and most profitable Lottery,
contributing $3.6 billion in Lottery Aid to Education for FY2021-2022 to help
support education in New York State and benefit New Yorkers.
The NY Lottery offers a variety of lotto games, including instant games, scratch-off games and draw
games like Pick 10, Powerball with the
optional Powerplay, Mega Millions with the optional Megaplier, take 5, Numbers
Midday, Numbers Evening, Win 4, New York Lotto, Cash4Life.
In FY 2022, the New York State Gaming Commission reported revenue was
$10.355 billion, while the required allocation for the Lottery Aid to Education
was $3.608 billion for fiscal year 2022. The lottery revenue, net in fiscal
year 2022 was more than the net revenue of 2021 by $1.761 billion, or 20.5%. In

You must be at least 18 years of age to play and at least 21 years old
to purchase Quick Draw tickets from retail locations that sell alcohol. You do
not have to be a New York state resident to play the lottery, but you must
purchase your ticket from an in-state retailer.
Learning how to play New York Lottery games is easy. Choose your
ticket and pick your numbers. For many games, you'll win a prize by matching
three or more of the main numbers in the draw. Some games, such as the Quick
Draw, offer a prize for matching a single number. However, these prizes are
minimal. You must match all the numbers in each game to hit the jackpot.
Your odds of winning the lottery are best with Numbers, where the
chance of getting a jackpot or top prize is 1 in 1,000. Your odds are the
smallest at the Powerball, where you have a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of getting
the jackpot.
Your chances of winning a smaller prize are always greater than your
chances of getting a massive payout. For example, if you play a one-spot game
in the Quick Draw, you have a 1 in 4 chance of winning, but the prize is only
$2. The possibility of hitting all 10 numbers on a 10-spot game is 1 in
8,911,711.
Lucky Sum was a wager that was previously available for Numbers and Win4 lottery games in New York. As of September 9, 2018, the Lucky Sum wager is no longer available.
